Cross Country Guide: Warrior Invitational on Saturday

Muskego teams compete at big annual meet at Lake Denoon Middle School

The Muskego Warriors cross country program is hosting its annual Warrior Invitational on Saturday at

Races begin at 10 a.m. with the junior varsity boys race, followed by the JV girls race at 10:40, the varsity boys at 11:20 and the varsity girls at noon. An awards ceremony will be held outside of the school upon completion of all the races.

Rankings: The boys team was ranked No. 10 in the latest Milwaukee Journal Sentinel area poll.

Recent meet: The girls team finished sixth out of 10 teams in the Marquette Invitational on Sept. 16 at Washington Park. The boys team has been idle since Sept. 10.

FYI: Freshman Leanna Barr paced the Warriors in the Marquette Invite. She crossed 17th out of 78 runners in 15:47. … Sophomores Georgi Llanas (20th, 15:51) and Sonya Ponzi (24th, 16:01) were also in the top 25. … In last year’s Warrior Invite, Germantown won the boys race, while Muskego placed second out of 13 teams. In the 12-team girls meet, Brookfield Central finished first and Badger and Muskego were second and third, respectively. … Seventeen teams are expected to take part in this year’s event. Among the state-ranked boys teams in the field are Brookfield Central (No. 6), Kenosha Tremper (No. 14) and Homestead (No. 15). Among the state-ranked girls teams in the field are Brookfield Central (No. 6) and Franklin (No. 14).

Upcoming key meets: Southeast Conference Meet (Oct. 15 at Lake Denoon Middle School), WIAA Sectional Meet (Oct. 22 at Grant Park).
