Five Muskego Wrestlers Advance to State

The Warriors are expected to be successful against tough competition.

It was business as usual for the Muskego wrestling team Saturday as five Warriors advanced to the individual state tournament.

Austin Quartullo (103), Justin Scherkenbach (125), Roland Dunlap (189) and Jordan Gruettner (215) each took first in their respective weight classes Saturday at the Division 1 Sectional at Janesville Craig.

Tyler Quartullo also advanced for Muskego, taking second in the 135-pound weight class.

Despite being in arguably the most nerve-wracking part of the season, Muskego coach Sean Fortmann said the team is still pretty relaxed.

“The feeling around our wrestling room is kind of business as usual,” Fortmann said. “I think the kids are excited for it to get here but really they have been in big tournaments before and, with the exception of Austin Quartullo, all have made multiple trips to the state tournament before.

“They have had goals that have led to this weekend and they are ready to realize those goals. It should be a fun weekend.”

The state tournament is set for Thursday through Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
