High School Football Guide: Muskego Looking to Rebound
After suffering first loss of the season, Warriors play Oak Creek.
One week after absorbing its first loss of the season, the Muskego Warriors football team closes out the regular season when it plays tomorrow night at the Southeast Conference game at Oak Creek High School, 340 E. Puetz Road.
Here is a closer look at the 2011 Warriors:
Last week: In a battle between unbeatens, the Warriors (7-1, 5-1 SEC) fell short in a 21-18 loss to visiting Kenosha Bradford, while Oak Creek (4-4, 3-3) blanked Racine Horlick, 35-0, in Racine.

Rankings: Muskego slipped three spots to No. 8 in Division 1 in the WisSports.net state coaches poll. The Warriors were also ranked No. 8 in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel state poll among all schools, tied for No. 18 in the Associated Press large division state poll and No. 4 in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel area poll.
Recent history: Muskego snapped a three-game losing streak against Oak Creek with a 42-30 victory in last year’s matchup at InPro Stadium. The Warriors overcame a 21-7 first-quarter deficit as Luke Przybylka rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and Tommy Stark also had 140 yards and two TDs.

FYI: In last week’s loss to Bradford, Muskego senior fullback Brady Simkowski went over the 1,000-yard mark on the season after picking up 105 yards on 27 carries. He now has 1,098 yards. … Jordan Gruettner had a pair of short TD runs, while Roland Dunlap had one for the Warriors, who led only once – 6-0 with 8:49 left in the first quarter. … Josh Breider recorded a pair of interceptions and Ryan Rantala had one. … The loss snapped Muskego’s 10-game regular-season winning streak. … Oak Creek needs a victory to qualify for the WIAA playoffs.
Quoteworthy: Dubbed as one of the top games in the state, Muskego and Bradford didn’t disappoint last week.
“Bradford’s been averaging 40 points a game and we held them to 21. That’s awesome,” Muskego coach Ken Krause said. “It all came down to a few inches and a few catches. Hats off to Bradford. They played well tonight and it was one heck of a game.”
