Recent history: The Warriors walloped Case 63-21 last season – their sixth consecutive victory over the Eagles. Jordan Gruettner rushed for a team-high 169 yards and five TDs.
FYI: Brady Simkowski carried the ball 36 times for 200 yards against Franklin. His 20-yard touchdown run with 1:40 left in the second quarter helped give the Warriors a 14-0 halftime lead. … Jordan Gruettner chipped in 54 yards and two TDs. … Jeff Glisch had an interception and recovered a fumble. … WisSports.net recently trimmed the preseason lists to the top-25 semifinalists for its annual WSN Senior Football Awards. Among the Muskego players to make the cut were Gruettner for the Kevin Stemke Award (top kicker/punter), Gruettner and Tommy Stark for the John Anderson Award (top linebacker), Roland Dunlap for the Tim Krumrie Award (top defensive lineman), Connor McIntosh and Collin Smith for the Joe Thomas Award (top offensive lineman) and Simkowski for the Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch Award (top running back).
Quoteworthy: Not only was last week’s victory the first over the Sabers since the 2005 season, but it was also the first shutout for the Warriors since blanking Waterford 10-0 in Week 2 last season.
“The defense played the best game since I have been the head coach,” Muskego coach Ken Krause said. “The credit starts with Coach (Jim) Michlig and Coach Domo (Rob Domenosky) for putting in a great game plan. Jordan Gruettner, Tommy Stark and Roland Dunlap played like three-year varsity starters. It was a complete team effort.”
Krause also singled out the defensive play of Jamie Edlebeck, Dane Stair, Trever Held, Jesse Wotnoske, Taylor Schmidt, Ryan Rantala, Jeff Glisch, Josh Breider, Tyler Thomka and Josh Baker.
