Whitnall's Zurowski Wins State Title in Vault
The sophomore claims her first state championship.
Led by Lauren Zurowski's first-place finish on vault, members of the Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall gymnastics team had a strong showing in the WIAA Division-1 Individual State Meet on Friday night at the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln Fieldhouse.
Six of the seven members of the FMOW varsity co-op team qualified for the individual meet at last week's sectional in Janesville.
Zurowski, a Whitnall sophomore, won a state title on vault with a score of 9.567. She tied for 12th in the event last year as a freshman. Janesville Craig sophomore Ashley Pohlman placed second at 9.55.

Muskego senior Erin Honerlaw, a three-time state qualifier on the balance beam, tied for fifth place and earned a medal in the event with a score of 9.083. In her previous state appearances, she was ninth as a sophomore and 16th as a junior.
Franklin senior Becky Schultz was eighth (9.017) and Franklin sophomore Melanie Pearson was 11th (8.917). Arrowhead senior Kirstyn Wood won the event with a 9.283.

Muskego sophomore Sammie Olson tied for ninth place on the uneven bars at 8.70. Sun Prairie junior Sydney Stiener had a winning score of 9.267.
Muskego junior Courtney L'Huillier placed 16th in the floor exericse with an 8.85. Arrowhead freshman Jessica Krause won the event with a 9.417.
In the all-around competition, Pearson ended up seventh with a 35.650, while Zurowski was 11th with a 35.150 and Olson was 22nd with a 34.100.
Ranked second in the state, FMOW will compete in the WIAA Division-1 Team State Meet on this afternoon, March 5. Gunning for the program's first state title, FMOW recorded the highest score in the state this season (146.05) at last week's sectional in Janesville.
