The Muskego baseball team’s pitching staff continued its stingy ways on Monday.
Senior left-hander Peter Jewell tossed a five-inning no-hitter in an 11-0 Greater Metro Conference victory over visiting Brookfield Central.
The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. It was the first no-hitter of the season for the Warriors, who have a team ERA of 1.06.

“In little league, I had no-hitters that went four innings,” Jewell said. “This is my first one in high school. This means a lot more. I’d love to have pitch all seven (innings), but, hey, my team got it done. It feels good.”
Jewell, the team’s No. 2 starter behind Cole Borek (6-2, 0.46 ERA), walked two and struck out nine.

“Peter was able to get ahead in the count and throw three pitches for strikes – fastball, curveball and changeup,” first-year Muskego coach Jacob Paige said. “He kept the hitters off-balance and our defense made a couple of nice plays as well.”
One of those defensive gems was a diving catch in center field by Josh Breider.
“It was an amazing catch,” Jewell said. “He definitely saved the no-hitter for me.”
Jewell improved to 4-2 and lowered his ERA to 1.01. In 41 2/3 innings, he has allowed 27 hits and 16 walks while striking out 43.
Nick Lehner, who was appearing in his second varsity game, belted a home run and finished with four RBI.
On the season, the team’s offensive leaders have been Sean Staral (.407), Austin Wendlandt (.364, 17 RBI), Jake Jewell (.320) and Breider (16 RBI).
“Our pitching has really been our strength and our hitting is starting to come around a little bit,” Paige said. “I like where we’re at right now.”
Ranked third in the area, the Warriors (15-4, 9-4 Greater Metro) take on top-ranked and first-place Oak Creek (18-2, 12-2) on Tuesday at Abenschein Park. The Warriors beat the Knights, 1-0 in nine innings, earlier this season behind a three-hit shutout by Jewell.
Borek is expected to start on the mound for Muskego.
"Cole has been doing great," Jewell said. "I'm just following in his footsteps because he's a team leader."
