At 7:45 a.m. June 13, Dakins was pulled over near Box Horn Road and Highway OO after he and his passengers were driving without seatbelts on. During the traffic stop, the trooper noticed the he had two arrest warrants pending for contempt of court and went to go place Dakins under arrest.
Dakins was talking on his cell phone when the officer told him he was under arrest and to hang up, however, he continued to talk on the phone. As the trooper walked closer to him, Dakins then hung up the phone and began to run from the trooper into a nearby garage, through the back and into a wooded area where the trooper gave up the chase.
