Man Steals Bike, Tries to Sell It Despite Advertising He Stole It

Wind Lake man took a vintage bicycle from a Muskego garage and then tried to sell it on Facebook.

A Wind Lake man is facing charges after he stole a vintage bicycle from a Muskego garage and tried to sell it on Facebook, even though he advertised it was stolen.

According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 8, Mitchell A. Dlapa, 23, stole a 1950’s era Schwinn bicycle valued at $175 and tools valued at $575 from a garage in the W14200 block of Groveway Lane.

A neighbor noticed Dlapa inside the garage, going through the victim’s car, but after the neighbor walked outside and his screen door slammed, Dlapa left the garage.

Two days later another person who knew Dlapa saw him in their backyard yelling and screaming until he rode off on a bicycle. Investigators then went to Dlapa’s Facebook page and saw a picture of the bicycle for sale for $100.

Dlapa claimed in the advertisement that he stole the bike and a purse from an old woman. Investigators made arrangements to meet Dlapa and purchase the bike, at which time they arrested him and he admitted to taking the bike.
