Man Uses His Grandparent's Bank Account to Pay Off His Drug Dealer's Phone Bill

Suspect stole $450 and used the victims' credit card to buy items he could exchange for heroin.

A 27-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a credit card from his grandparent’s Muskego home and used it to pay off his drug dealer’s cell phone bill in exchange for heroin.

Matthew H. Stolzel was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of identity theft. If convicted, he could face up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Oct. 28, police were contacted by the victims after they noticed unauthorized withdrawls from their checking account for about $450. They suspected their grandson who had done a similar thing a year before.

On Nov. 12 they contacted police again after they discovered Stolzel made five unauthorized purchases with their credit card.

When interviewed by police, Stolzel admitted to withdrawing the card to purchase an air conditioner and two cell phones, which he then traded for heroin. He said he also used the routing number from their bank account so he could pay off hi drug dealer’s cell phone bill in exchange for heroin.

He will make his initial appearance in court Jan. 23.
