Muskego Boys Swimming Adds Another Title To the Books

Warriors take the SEC tourney in convincing fashion.

After a team wins the Super Bowl, a “Gatorade bath” has become so much of a tradition that we all expect it.

Whether Muskego swimming coach Larry Milton expected to be tossed into the pool after his team’s convincing victory at the Southeast Conference tournament at Racine Park on Feb. 5 or not, they didn’t care. He was going in one way or another.

“I’m very lucky to have the guys that I have,” Milton said as he wrung out his drenched socks. “These seniors came through. It’s going to be sad (when the season’s over), it’s a bittersweet moment in that regard. We planned on it (winning the tournament) but I didn’t realize it was going to be this wide of a margin.”

The Warriors finished the day with 483 points. The next closest was Racine Case with 361. No matter what sport you’re competing in, that’s an extremely sizable win.

Muskego didn’t do it by breaking water-speed records. Instead, they just went about their business and accomplished their best on, thus far, the biggest stage.

“No personal records today, which is good,” Milton said. “A third of our team tapered and shaved down and they came through with some fine times but personally-wise I was hoping to do a little better just for these guys because they work so hard. Overall, I can’t ask for anything more.”

In the 500 yard free, Patrick Walsh, Joe Szczpakiewicz, and Matt Gilson finished first, second, and third for the Warriors while Walsh also took first in the 200 yard free while teammates Austin and Alan Prichard took third and fifth, respectively.

While all looks great for the Warriors as they add yet another title to their already-crowded trophy case, Muskego heads into one of the most challenging sectionals in the area as they head to Waukesha South this coming weekend in hopes of qualifying for a trip to Madison.
