Muskego Could See 0% Levy Increase in 2012 City Budget

Mayor unveils her proposed budget for 2012 during last night's Committee of the Whole meeting

Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti announced during a Committee of the Whole meeting last evening that her proposed 2012 budget calls for no increase in the tax levy.

The Mayor explained that additional sources of state aid were recently discovered, coming from the transportation fund.

She also acknowledged that a move like this will most likely be a one-time shot, at least for a while.

"I think we can do this one time, and then that's it," Chiaverotti said, explaining that consistently going with a 0% levy increase will undoubtedly come to have an impact on city services.

In informal straw polling conducted during the COW meeting, four aldermen tentatively showed their support for the budget, with Alderman Kert Harenda not in support. He argued that the budget did not go far enough.

Absent from the meeting was Alderman Dan Soltysiak.
