Muskego Hornets A Relatively New Face in Fast Pitch
Fast pitch girls represent Muskego area and are expanding after only two years
Randy Holtman and Brian O'Keefe started the Muskego Hornets in 2009 to give their daughters another option for select softball in the area. Â They had played in the Muskego Athletic Association rec softball and they were all on the Muskego Storm Select girls softball team.
Beginning with one U12 team, they expanded to include one U10, and a U14 team as well. Â They maintained those teams in 2011, but now are again looking to expand to include teams in the 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 age ranges. Â
"We have girls from Muskego, Franklin, Greendale, Mukwonago, Wind Lake, Milwaukee and Greenfield in our club," explained O'Keefe.
"We play the MMFL (Milwaukee Metro-Fastpitch League) which has roughly 110 teams in it."

While not possessing a "home" field, the girls play all over Southeastern Wisconsin during the regular season. Â Along with 14 regular season games they also compete in four to five weekend tournaments every summer. Â
O'Keefe said the cities for the tournament vary, but usually include New Berlin, Whitnall, Appleton and Columbus. This year the girls traveled Eau Claire for the State tournament.

In relation to other clubs the fees for the Muskego Hornets are much lower and they don't require ongoing fundraising for the girls and their parents. Â Â
"We have very gracious sponsors, which include several local businesses like Muskego Tire, Gus' Mexican Cantina and Inpro," O'Keefe said. "Every February we have a large fundraiser, which in 2011 was held at High-Tide...This along with our dues allows us to join our league and all the tournaments, along with providing each girls their own helmet, bat bag, and two uniforms."
"As with every other club team, we are very competitive, but the reason we started the Hornet's was to make sure our kids and parents kept the goal in sight. The girls play at a high level, have fun and win or lose show top-notch sports-woman-ship," O'Keefe said. Â "A lot of clubs are not that way and all they care about is winning and in our opinion that being their only goal is not healthy in building solid student/athletes and all-around good young ladies."
