Muskego Man Charged in Standoff

Complaint alleges suspect began waving guns at his wife Sunday.

A 42-year-old Muskego man was charged in Waukesha County circuit Court Monday after he was involved in a four hour standoff with police Sunday.

Bryan W. Schulz was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of second degree reckless endangerment domestic abuse, one count of disorderly conduct domestic abuse with use of a dangerous weapon and one count of possession of a firearm while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to 11 years in prison and $36,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, Schulz got into an argument with his wife at their home on Summeridge Court after his stepson shot one of his collector beer cans with a BB gun, saying it was worth $450 and he needed to be paid for the item. During the course of the argument, Schulz got the BB gun in his hands and began hitting the butt of the gun into a bedroom door.

Schulz then grabbed a .357 Magnum handgun and began to wave it in the face of his wife, the complaint states, who then asked him to give her the gun, but he said if he gave her the gun he still had another on his possession.

His wife then told him she was going to call the police to which he responded “you know what that means, game on,” and went to try and get more guns out of his gun safe.

The complaint states Schulz then got into a physical altercation with his wife, who then proceeded to send a text message to a friend of hers asking them to call the cops.

She then told Schulz she had to use the bathroom, but he proceeded to follow her, scream through the door and hit it repeatedly with the butt of the BB gun rifle again.

She then told Schulz they should go outside and have a cigarette, which the complaint states he agreed to, but also asked her to bring a couple of Xanax pills “as an act of good faith.”

The complaint states his wife then saw a text message from her friend stating the police were outside the house and she needed to get out immediately.

After the standoff ended, the complaint states Schulz told investigators he had been holding a loaded .22 caliber rifle while arguing with his wife about the beer can, but never pointed it at her. He also said he had drunk two containers of wine prior to the incident and he had a blood alcohol level of 0.09 at the time of the incident.

Officers also discovered numerous firearms within the residence and ammunition.

Schulz is currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on $2,500 cash bond.
