Correction: Muskego School Board Votes on Salaries

Increase seen for superintendent, however others will see an overall decrease due to retirement pay-in.

(Editor's note - the power of a hyphen.  We had originally reported a 4.6% increase for administrators, however the total package was a 4.6% decrease.  We apologize for the error.)

The Muskego-Norway School Board met Monday night and as part of their agenda voted on several resolutions impacting district salaries for the 2011-2012 school year.

Employees who are considered non-represented, or those who are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement, will receive a 1.5 percent salary increase but will realize a total package decrease of 4.92 percent when the Wisconsin Retirement System contributions are figured in.  In addition, administrators will receive a total package decrease of 4.6 percent.

Both votes were contingent upon the enactment of Act 10 legislation, also known as the budget repair bill, which puts the action on hold until June 30, 2011.  The legislation is not considered law until it is officially published by the secretary of state, Doug LaFollette, who has stated he would hold publishing the law until June 28, 2011.

The board also approved a total 4 percent increase in salary for Dr. Joe Schroeder, school superintendent. Of that total, a salary increase 1.5 percent was approved, with an additional 2.5 percent in recognition "of outstanding achievement in receiving the Wisconsin Forward Award for the district, as well as his recognition as Superintendent of the Year," according to Jim Schaefer, board president.
