Muskego Woman Charged with Stealing her Grandmother's Vehicle, Credit Card

Suspect racked up nearly $9,700 in unauthorized charges, but told police she had an agreement to do so with her grandmother.

A 34-year-old Muskego woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly stole her grandmother’s car and used her credit card to buy $9,700 worth of items.

Kari J. Shaw was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and 10 counts of identity theft. If convicted, she face 63 ½ years in prison and $100,000 in fines.

Shaw took her grandmother’s Jeep from her town of Vernon residence on Oct. 21 while she was out.

On Oct. 4, Shaw had been arrested on a warrant and her grandmother was looking for her credit card when she found it in Shaw’s purse. After looking through credit card statements for the past several months, she noticed there were 128 unauthorized charges totaling $9,697.

Shaw returned the vehicle on Tuesday and was arrested shortly afterwards. She told police she had an agreement with her grandmother to use it and to use the credit card to pay for some items.

Shaw is being held in Waukesha County Jail on $2,500 cash bond.
