National Night Out Set to Return Thursday

Community public safety event aims to bring neighbors together, and recent Oak Creek shooting underscores the importance of knowing your neighbors, and working in partnership with police.

Muskego's National Night Out returns for its sixth consecutive year on Thursday, August 9 at Veteran's Memorial Park, and its message has never been more relevant.

Organizers and law enforcement have always seen the event as an opportunity to join neighbors together and provide information on how they can work together to create safer communities, and how they can help police to do the same. In the wake of the Oak Creek shootings at the Sikh Temple, residents are reminded that being aware of their neighbors, and reporting anything that 'doesn't seem right' is key in solving and preventing crime.

Thursday night's activities will include:

If you have any extra eyeglasses or cell phones, those will also be collected as well during the event. The Muskego Food Pantry will also be on hand to collect food donations as well as school supplies.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m., and if that comes during supper time, bring your appetite with you and enjoy concessions on the grounds, and enjoy Irish music provided by The Gleasons.

National Night Out generally closes at 9 p.m., but as the grounds are not lit, be aware that after 8:30 p.m., many vendors have to close up shop because it's simply too dark to operate.
