New Dispatch Center to be Unveiled

Police department to offer tour of new IT Data and Dispatch Center prior to Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday night

While he wouldn't share specifics prior to the planned tour at 5:45 Tuesday, Muskego Police Captain John Latour did say that the upgrades made to the dispatch center at the department would make a difference in the community.

"When you think of the fact that Muskego is home to two major senior facilities, response time is extremely important," Latour said.  "Before this the option was to call the Waukesha County Communications Center (WCCC), and we feel that this updated system will save about one and a half minutes in response time, easily."

While many may not feel that's a big deal, Latour said when people are asked to envision a loved one in a medical crisis and wait for 90 seconds before you tell them that help has just been dispatched, they realize how long the elapsed time is.

WCCC is the county's 911 center, which covers 29 communities and is considered a public safety answering point (PSAP).  Calls coming into a PSAP are then dispatched to local emergency units, which in turn send responders appropriate to the emergency.  Muskego police are looking to shorten the response time with a more direct connection between the caller and first responder.  In this case, an estimated 90 seconds.
