Plan Commision OKs New Development at Willow Glen
Support cited for added rental units and additions to tax base.
The Plan Commission approved on Feb. 10 a resolution for the rezoning of the property at the Willow Glen Apartments, which will allow the building of 11 new, four-unit apartment buildings. Presently there are two existing multi-family structures, which will be updated to match the architectural style of the new units that were proposed.
City planner Adam Trzebiatowski also outlined a plan to make improvements to the driveway leading to the buildings, which he stated would improve run off, and the demolition of a clubhouse, which would be replaced by two new garage structures. The development is located just south of City Hall and north of the Calvary Evangelical Free Church.
The plan met high praise from Commissioner Mark Noah, who said, “I’m not unhappy at all with these plans; what I’ve seen in the architectural details and materials they’re using is all top quality.”

Discussion also pointed out that the city is in need of such units for renting, as home sales have slowed, but demand for apartments has led people who work in the city to live outside of it. In addition, the development was viewed as an asset in the need to add to the tax base for the city.
The only concerns were in the landscaping plan, but the resolution will be amended to ensure neighboring properties would have some screen from the development.
