Private Matter Plays Out in a Public Incident

Man was apparently suicidal and armed, but was taken into custody without incident say police.

Editor's note:  police incidents involving individuals who are suicidal are normally not part of their public weekly report, however this incident played out in a public manner, and has been reported to alleviate any concern.

A man had been reported to police to be armed and suicidal on Monday, May 16, shortly after 11 a.m.  Several officers responded to the scene in the parking lot of a business in the S8200 block of Racine Ave. , and at one point had drawn their weapons.

Lt. David Constantineau explained that "Normally I would not report on this type of incident, as it is a personal issue and not a matter for the general public.  I felt it was necessary to let you know about this particular incident, however, because it involved the deployment of several weapons by officers, happened in full view of a busy county highway and was witnessed by many people."

The incident had generated a lot of questions from the public, according to Constantineau.

The gentleman was taken into protective custody without incident, neither he nor officers were injured, and Constantineau said the general public was never in any danger.
