School Board Makes Final Layoff Recommendations

Two guidance counselors, one art teacher will be let go after end of the school year.

The Muskego-Norway School Board met Monday night to take action on a final resolution for teacher layoffs in the 2011-2012 school year.

Joe Schroeder, MNSD Superintendent, said that the net loss the district is facing is 1.7 full-time-equivalent (FTE) positions.  While the budget repair bill proposed by Scott Walker earlier this year is held up in court, Schroeder said they have to move forward now to prepare for the estimated $2.3 million loss in revenue to the district.

Two guidance counselors, one at the elementary level and another at the middle school level, will not be renewed for the 2011-2012 school year, and a part-time art teacher that worked between two schools will also be eliminated.

Schroeder explained that as teachers are already in place in the classrooms the counselors serve, they felt there was duplication in the positions and going forward the teachers would perform those functions.
