Soccer Guide: Warriors Off to a Perfect Start

Prevail in Muskego Cup; win SEC opener

The s boys soccer team is off to an impressive start. After winning three matches in two days in last weekend’s season-opening Muskego Cup, the Warriors scored a 6-0 victory over Racine Horlick in their first Southeast Conference match on Tuesday.

Juniors—Josh DeGrave (D), Jake Helland (F), Steve Kerns (MF), Nick Oleniczak (GK). Last year: 15-8-2 (6-1 Southeast Conference, second place) … Lost to Waukesha West in the WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal, 4-3.

FYI: Kraussel scored two goals in a 4-0 victory over Green Bay East in the first game of the Muskego Cup. Oleniczak recorded the shutout. … In a 3-1 triumph over Slinger in the semifinals, Helland scored a late goal to help clinch the victory. Kryszak notched two assists. … The Warriors defeated Appleton North, last year’s WIAA Division 1 state runner-up, 3-2, in the championship match. Jared Pradarelli opened the scoring with a penalty kick. Helland scored the eventual game winner when he converted a through ball from Novakovich in the second half. … Novakovich recorded a hat trick vs. Horlick. Bullard also scored his first varsity goal. … Kryszak and Novakovich earned All-SEC mention last season. … The Warriors have qualified for the WIAA State Tournament, winning it all in 2009.

Quoteworthy: “The defense played extremely well, never giving Horlick a real shot on goal,” Muskego coach Eric Hess said. “The defense has really improved each and every game. And our offensive possession was great.”

Up next: The Warriors play in the annual Al Gusho Tournament Friday and Saturday at Brookfield East.
