That's How the Cookie Crumbles

Girl Scout cookies arriving in the area.

By the time you start to wonder about that order you placed in the bleakness of January, the colorful boxes that house some of the most beloved cookies on the planet arrive on your doorstep.

Locally, the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast have been receiving the troops' orders and distributing them as fast as they can for final delivery to your home.  Didn't place an order?  Not to fear...the organization has gone hi-tech and while internet sales are not permitted to protect the privacy of the girls, they do allow for you to submit your email address, and a list of public locations for troop sales will be sent to you.

The annual cookie sales represent the largest girl-led business in the country, and amass sales of $700 million annually.  Designed to teach scouts goal setting, salesmanship and handling money, the program's dollars stay local and help troops to fund activities like field trips and campouts.

The program was begun as a bake sale to raise money for a troop in Oklahoma back in 1917.  One of the sale's most popular cookie, the Thin Mint, was introduced in 1951.
