The Search Is On for Muskego’s 2011 Teen Idol Vocalist.

Miley Cyrus is getting "old" and Justin Bieber gets enough attention already. Now it's time for local talent to shine.

The first night of auditions for Muskego’s Teen Idol Contest was held Wednesday, June 13 at City Hall, a rainy-gray night that kept scores of talent hidden from the waiting cameras, lights and the Teen Advisory Board issuing the talent call.

But with a $300 first prize to be awarded at the end of summer, the next two auditions within a city and a school district known for high quality solo musical performances could bring some hot competition to the stage.

Entrants should be between the ages of 13-19 and live in Muskego or be a student in the Muskego Norway School District, according to Stacy Tikkanen, president of the Muskego High School advisory board that runs the competition.  Contestants must also be amateurs, as no professional singers are allowed, Tikkanen said.   A $5 entry fee is required.

The next two auditions will be held on Monday, July 11 and Thursday, July 21 in the  Muskego Room at City Hall from 6-8 pm.  Entrants can sing acapella (with no musical accompaniment), or cantata (with musical accompaniment, usually on an instrument or ipod), organizers said.  Song choices may change at any time before the finals.

Top soloists will move on to the finals on August 27th from 6:30-9 pm at the Muskego Community Festival, located at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Muskego. A 2nd prize of $150 and 3rd prize of $75 will also be awarded.
