Voters Give Thumbs Up on $33 Million Muskego Norway Tax Levy

With public comment nonexistent, vote and approval on levy was swift.

A $33 million tax levy for 2011-2012 was quickly approved during the annual meeting of the Muskego Norway School District (MNSD) Tuesday night.Β  Β Voters included employees, retirees, parents, taxpayers and other members of the general public attending the meeting.

Board President Jim Schaefer was surprised at a notably silent response after he invited public comments on the Board’s $33,279,297 tax levy recommendation.

β€œThis is going to be a quick meeting with no questions or comments,” he said to the crowd.Β  β€œI don’t think this has ever happened before,” Schaefer said, repeatedly offering an open floor for comments.

The levy, which passed with flying colors after a summary of district successes in 2011 amidst a year of budget and legislative turmoil in Wisconsin, from the previous year.

Schroeder also pointed to record-breaking scores for the district in academics, huge applicant pools for teacher positions, and realtor buzz calling MNSD β€œa coveted” district for home buyers.
