Waukesha DOT Plans Construction on Racine Avenue

Project on Muskego's other main highway will begin July 11, and complete August 19

The Waukesha County Department of Public Works will begin reconstruction of the Racine Avenue (County Highway Y) and Woods Road intersection in the City of Muskego.Β  Construction will involve widening and resurfacing of the existing intersection and replacement of the existing traffic signals.Β  Racine Avenue will be open to traffic at all times during construction.Β  Residents are advised to drive carefully within the construction zone and to expect periodic delays due to construction activities.

According to Michael Grulke with the DOT, the project will include the installation of new lights and widening of the intersection to allow for better left turn lanes. Β In addition, pedestrian crossing buttons will allow for foot traffic to the high school on the intersection's southwest corner.

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of July 11, 2011 and expected to be completed by August 19, 2011.Β  During construction, to enhance the safety of the traveling public and construction crews, the speed limit will be reduced to 25 miles per hour through the construction area.

Grulke said the intersection was on the county's radar for the past year, and had been approved after a few public information meetings. Β The cost of the project is estimated at approximately $700,000.

The construction project will precede Muskego's other, more major reconstruction project planned for Janesville Road. Β County officials have also slated August to begin utilities construction along the eastern end of the Janesville Road corridor, from Moorland Road to Lannon Drive.
