Will Muskego Court Kohl's?
Discussions explore options, but retail corporation is asking a lot, say planners.

Kohl's Department Stores recently announced their desire for a larger corporate headquarters. Their current headquarters is in the Silver Spring Corporate Park, in Menomonee Falls.
Previously, North Hills Country Club in Menomonee Falls was thought to be a likely candidate, however the deal had fallen through, and locations including downtown Milwaukee and outside of the state have all been talked about.
Kohl's also owns an employee clinic nearby as well as a call center two miles east, and the new headquarters would combine these operations and accommodate a total of 5,500 employees.

The new headquarters would also create a massive development that would total several hundred thousand square feet, and require a significant amount of acreage to be built. (Present acreage of their current corporate headquarters is 326.) That appears to be the hitch in Muskego.
"We might look at our Moorland corridor," said city planner Jeff Muenkel, "however we would have to give up additional development space to provide the land."

Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti agreed, saying that while having Kohl's here would be a huge opportunity, the city would also have to give up land that was slated for smaller retail development, like restaurants.
Muenkel also said that other communities appear to be weighing their options and holding off on any formal plans, as Menomonee Falls is still working to find other sites, and CEO Kevin Mansell had stated previously that the ideal would be to stay nearby.
Recently, however Mansell was also quoted as stating, "There is no option that we aren't willing to consider," Mansell said. "The guiding principal is simple: We want to be the employer of choice."
