Fire Alarm At Eisenhower Tuesday Caused By Faulty Light Switch

Students at New Berlin's Eisenhower middle and high school were evacuated Tuesday due to a fire alarm. A faulty light switch was to blame.

NEW BERLIN, WI β€” Students at New Berlin's Eisenhower Middle/High School were briefly evacuated from the building Tuesday morning due to a fire alarm.

The alarm was caused by a faulty light switch in one of the school's science rooms. The light switch was emitting sparks and smoke. A member of staff pulled the fire alarm upon seeing the malfunctioning light switch, David Cotey, the District's coordinator for communications and public relations, told Patch.

As students and staff were evacuated, members of the school's maintenance team disconnected power to the faulty light switch and removed it, Cotey said. The fire department searched for any hot spots or cause for concern and then cleared the building for re-entry within 15 minutes, he added.
