2 Oak Creek Polling Places Moved Out Of Schools For Safety

OAK CREEK, WI — Citing student and school safety, Oak Creek officials have relocated two Oak Creek polling places out of schools and into other buildings in the community. Since 2012, four such school-building polling places have been relocated.

"Although the school district has been very supportive of elections and the election process, it is imperative to address the residents’ concerns," Oak Creek City Clerk Catherine A. Roeske said. "Residents and teachers have contacted me to share concerns with voting in the schools on Election Day. Although every effort is made to isolate the voting to one area within a school, there is no way to completely eliminate the chance of someone entering the other areas of the building."

Other election-day concerns were an increase in traffic on school grounds, a loss of large space in the school buildings otherwise designated for gym or lunch, and parking congestion that can cause delays to bus schedules.
