2-Year-Old Suffered From Second-Hand Marijuana Smoke: Police

Police reported that a 2-year-old child suffered from unknown body tremors. When doctors investigated, they found evidence of marijuana.

OAK CREEK, WI — Oak Creek police responded to the College Court Apartments on the 6400 block of S. 20th St. just before 5:30 p.m. on June 22 on a report of an apparent child neglect case.

According to police reports, the mother of a two-year-old boy came to the Oak Creek police station to report suspected child abuse of her son by his father.

According to reports, when the mother got her son back from his father on Sunday after a two-day stay, the child was reportedly shaking and had body tremors for unknown reasons. The tremors continued through Monday, so the mother brought him to his doctor to determine a cause.

Doctors noted that there was nothing physically wrong with the woman's son, so the doctor ordered a drug blood panel for the child, according to reports.

According to police reports, when the results came back, doctors said there were abnormally high levels of specific chemicals in the child's blood streatm that could be linked to second-hand marijuana smoke.

According to the report, the mother has contacted Child Protective Services regarding the incident and police made a second referral on the mother's behalf.

Police also reported that the case was explained to the Milwaukee County District Attorney who said that the case could be referred to their office for charging if the mother was willing to file a formal complaint.
