A 6-year-old escaped being struck by gunfire at a Cudahy pool after a conflict between children escalated into a dispute between adults.

CUDAHY, WI — A 6-year-old escaped being struck by gunfire at a Cudahy pool after a conflict between children escalated into a dispute between adults and a shooting scene.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, Calvin J. Jeans, 20, Cudahy, was supervising a group of children at his apartment complex pool on the 2800 block of E. Edgerton Ave. on July 28 when two adults approached him.
Investigators say the two adults approached Jeans, saying their younger cousin was having trouble with some of the children in Jeans' group. According to statements recorded by police, Jeans responded to the two adults by pulling out a handgun and racking the slide.

At that point, investigators say one of the two men who approached Jeans offered to settle the matter with a fistfight, only to have Jeans fire two warning shots into the air on the pool grounds.
Police say Jeans ran a short distance away. As he did, the two men left in a car with a 6-year-old child. As they were driving off, investigators say Jeans fired two more shots, striking the fleeing car in the passenger-side door.

According to the criminal complaint, police later found Jeans in the apartment complex, and took him into custody. When questioned by police, Jeans reportedly told officers that he fired the first two gunshots into the air, and two subsequent shots into the ground, and that the action of the gun must have resulted in the second shot firing at a higher line of sight.
Jeans told police that he didn't know there was a child in the car, according to the criminal complaint.
According to court documents, Jeans has been charged with three counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. If convicted Jeans faces up to 15 years behind bars in addition to any fines he may incur.
Jeans is currently being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $7,500 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 12.
