Reports indicated that a boxer named "Bear" had gone missing from the animal hospital. He had been secured in a kennel that had zip ties on it for extra security. Additionally, hospital staff told police that "Bear" was notorious for escaping due to the dog's apparent anxiety issues.

When police arrived they noticed that the front door of Brentwood was slightly open, and the glass deadbolt door was unlocked. All of the lights were on inside the building and no items were missing — except for "Bear."
