Bike Ride To Highlight Impact of WE Energies Power Plant
After the ride, there will be a pizza party at the Eco-Justice Center.

Oak Creek, WI – The Clean Power Coalition of Southeast Wisconsin will be hosting a “Ride for Renewables,” a group bike ride that will show riders the local impact of the WE Energies coal-fired power plant, including pollution and quality-of-life issues.
The ride will start at the We Energies Trail on 7 Mile Road, east of Douglas Ave., where participants will hear from some of the neighbors to We Energies’ and MGE’s Oak Creek coal-fired power plants. Riders will then travel past coal-filled train cars to the turnaround point where there will be opportunities to hear other speakers and see the power plants. There, near the Lake Michigan shoreline they will enjoy refreshments before returning to the starting point.
The ride will last around 90 minutes including stops and talks. Organizers say Saturday's ride will be an easy, relatively flat ride on packed gravel trails. Length is approximately 6 miles round trip. After the ride, there will be a pizza party at the Eco-Justice Center where attendees can see the Center’s renewable energy generators, including solar panels and a wind turbine. Participants are encouraged to stay for “Bonk in the Barn,” a free monthly series featuring musical and literary performances, which begins at 6 PM (doors open at 5:30).
