BloodCenter and Brew City Bruisers Host Blood Drive
Save the day at the Bay View library, Saturday, April 4

BloodCenter of Wisconsin and the Brew City Bruisers have joined forces to share an important message with the Bay View community — much like first responders and medical professionals, blood donors truly have the power to save lives. Milwaukee County residents can help patients in need at BloodCenter of Wisconsin’s upcoming blood drive.
The drive will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Bay View Milwaukee Public Library , 2566 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.
Donors can schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-BE-A-HERO (1-877-232-4376), or visiting www.bcw.edu or m.bcw.edu on their mobile device.
Blood donor Tammy Hosch of Brookfield, Wis., provides the unique gift of life through BloodCenter of Wisconsin. That gift allows healthcare professionals like Monique Rader, R.N., at Froedtert Hospital to save the lives of trauma patients.
The makings of a loyal blood donor
About five years ago, a blood drive was being held at Hosch’s workplace. That’s where a BloodCenter volunteer told her how blood donations save lives — not only for his own surgery but for others as well. As the two parted ways, the volunteer asked Hosch to simply consider the idea of blood donation.
“A few hours later I was at the blood drive, giving blood,” Hosch said. “Since then I’ve made regular whole blood donations and even platelets a few times. I feel very fortunate to be healthy enough to make blood and platelet donations. It leaves me with a wonderful feeling.”
Like Hosch, area donors can be assured they are making a profound and positive impact on the lives of patients in our own community and beyond.
Special token of thanks
BloodCenter of Wisconsin is partnering with Mount Olympus Water Park in Wisconsin Dells to offer a special gift of thanks to blood donors. Attempting donors will receive a Mount Olympus admission pass for up to four people that can be used May 23 through July 2, 2015.
Anyone 16 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Appointments are preferred to ensure a quick and convenient donation, but walk-in donors are also welcome. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate. The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes birth date.
