Booster Shot Clinics In Oak Creek: What To Know

OAK CREEK, WI — Those in Oak Creek who previously recieved two shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine may now be eligible for a booster shot.

Older adults and those with underlying medical conditions are among the first people recommended to get the additional shot. The CDC announced the news last week alongside data supporting the need for a booster shot for people who got the Pfizer vaccine.

You would only want to get a booster shot if you meet eligibility criteria, and if Pfizer was the only vaccine you have recieved, the CDC said. Other vaccines such as Johnson & Johnson and Moderna have not been approved for booster shots.

Those who recieved Pfizer should also wait at least six months after they complete two doses to receive a booster shot, according to the CDC.

CDC studies show immunity against COVID-19 can decrease over time in those who recieved Pfizer, which can make people more susceptible to the delta variant. Vaccination remains effective at preventing severe disease, but a booster shot was proven to increase the immune response, according to the CDC.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services agreed with the CDC study and asserted Wisconsin supports the recommendation to get a booster.


If you previously recieved the Pfizer vaccine are looking for a booster shot, there are two clinics in Oak Creek this week, according to the health department's website:

Monday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Cudahy City Hall, 5050 S. Lake Drive, Cudahy. Register here.

Wednesday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m., St. Francis City Hall, 3400 Howard Avenue, St. Francis. Register here.

According to the Oak Creek Health Department, there are numerous groups recommended to receive a booster shot of the Pfizer vaccine. Those who are immunocompromised such as those with cancer, heart conditions, liver disease, dementia, HIV infection, stroke, and other conditions.

Those who may not be immunocompromised but are instead in high-risk environments may also be eligible for the booster dose, such as first responders, educators, food and agricultural workers, grocery store workers and public transit workers, the health department said on its website.

People who are homebound can still receive a vaccine in Oak Creek. Call the Oak Creek Health Department at 414-766-7950 for assistance in vaccines for homebound people.
