Captain David Stecker Named As Upcoming Oak Creek Police Chief

Stecker, currently the administrative captain, will begin his new role as police chief on Jan. 3, the Police and Fire Commission announced.

OAK CREEK, WI — The Oak Creek Police and Fire Commission announced Friday that Police Captain David. R. Stecker, Jr, was chosen for the position of City of Oak Creek Police Chief, effective Jan. 3, 2022.

Stecker, who has over 22 years of law enforcement experience with the Oak Creek Police Department, is an Oak Creek native himself, a news release from the city said. He graduated from Oak Creek High School and his career in Oak Creek Law Enforcement later began when he became a police aide in May 1999.

"I’m honored and humbled to have the opportunity to continue to serve the City of Oak Creek in this new leadership position," Stecker said in a news release. "We have a great community that is continually growing, and we have an excellent staff that is prepared to meet that challenge. My goal is to continue to have staff prepared to meet the continued challenges we are facing into the future. I’m excited for these challenges and to continue serving the City of Oak Creek."

Stecker rose through the ranks of the Oak Creek Police Department after he started in 1999. He became a sworn officer in 2001, eventually progressing to Sergeant, Lieutenant and since 2017, Administrative Captain, the news release said.

Stecker will become the Police Chief when the current Police Chief Steven Anderson is expected to retire after his 31 years of service in Oak Creek.

"Our candidates were well qualified, and their incredible leadership qualities and experience are testament to a strong succession plan in the Oak Creek Police Department," OC Police and Fire Commission President Scott Koenig said in the news release. "We are highly confident that David Stecker, as Police Chief, will be a creative and trusted leader, mentor of future leaders, and will enhance the already superior reputation of the Oak Creek Police Department."

"The quality of our protective services is a significant reason why Oak Creek is such a desired place to live and work," Koenig said in the release.

Over his years in the Oak Creek Police Department, Stecker has continued his education. He has a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Marian University. Stecker also attended the FBI National Academy's 267th Session where he received a Master's Certificate in Criminal Justice Leadership, according to the news release.
