OAK CREEK, WI — On Saturday, May 18, community members will gather at Bender Park in Oak Creek to protest coal and other fossil fuels at a local Hands Across the Sand event, calling for a switch from coal to clean energy sources.

At issue for Clean Power Coalition organizers is a proposal by the WEC Energy Group that they say hinders the ability of clean energy advocates to erect solar panels on their property. "The proposal imposes a major fee on solar panel owners, removing part of the incentive to invest in solar. This issue, along with concerns about coal pollution, will be highlighted at the event," organizers say.

At 11 a.m., organizers and members of the public will gather for snacks and refreshments and discuss the need for a clean energy transition. Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) and others will speak. At noon, the group will gather on the beach to hold hands in solidarity with other protests around the world.
