Reports stated that police saw an open container of beer in the otherwise empty car's back seat and possible marijuana shake on the car's front seat. When police deployed drug-sniffing dog Nox, Nox indicated the presence of possible narcotics in the same place in the car where the officer saw suspected marijuana shake. Officers also reportedly found a gun holster near the gear shift console.

Meanwhile, Oak Creek police reported that an officer conducted a traffic stop on the 9300 block of S. Lake Vista Parkway on an apparent moving violation. When police questioned the vehicle's driver and passenger, police noted they told two completely different stories as to why they were in the area.
According to police, the man said he was down in the area test driving his car, but the woman in the passenger seat said they were in the area to pick up the man's son who had run from police.
As police noted, "[the driver] continued to deny that he was there to help his son even when given the contradicting statements of his son and his friend, and the extremely coincidental nature of his being down at the park shortly after his son ran from officers."
According to police, 1.7 grams of marijuana were eventually found in the car in Lake Vista Park in addition to a loaded firearm under the seat.
