Deputy Pulls Over 20-Year-Old Doing Nearly 100 MPH

Officials said the 20-year-old Muskego man did not have an explanation except to say that the car's engine light was on.

OAK CREEK, WI — A Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputy is reporting Friday that they stopped a motorist who was speeding in the left lane of traffic at 98 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour speed zone on I-94 in the southbound lanes while traveling through Oak Creek.

Officials said the 20-year-old Muskego man did not have an explanation except to say that the car’s engine light was on.

Sheriff Richard Schmidt said in a prepared statement in response to the traffic violation: “Speeding at almost twice the speed limit is incredibly dangerous to other motorists on the road. This behavior shows a total disregard for life and must change! Slow Down, Drive Sober, Stay Alive!”

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office is conducting speed saturation patrols throughout the interstate system in Milwaukee County. In their most recent report from June 7 to June 13, they issued 185 speeding tickets among the 291 traffic violations they cited.

According to Sheriff's statistics, of those 185 speeding tickets, 89 were ticketed for going 20-24 miles per hour over the speed limit, 24 were ticketed for going 25-29 over the speed limit, 9 were ticketed for going 30-34 miles over the speed limit and four were ticketed for going more than 35 miles per hour over the speed limit.

Sheriff's officials say they have responded to 2,404 crashes on Milwaukee County roads, five of which were fatalities. They made 442 arrests for driving while impaired. Of those, 39 were drug-related officials say.
