Driver Nearly Hits Squad, Knocks Over Road Sign: Report

Police in Oak Creek say that the driver of a vehicle who was on his phone and not paying attention to the road nearly struck a police squad.

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek say that the driver of a vehicle who was on his phone and not paying attention to the road nearly struck a police squad, and caused damage to private property on the morning of July 19.

According to Oak Creek police reports, a man identified as Brandon Orosz was driving south in a black Toyota Corolla at about 9 p.m. on the 7300 block of S. Howell Ave. when he reportedly left the roadway, drove onto the grass, struck a crosswalk sign and turned into the Meijer gas station lot.

Reports stated his car sustained disabling damage and was towed by B&B Towing. A witness told police that they saw Orosz looking down like he was on the phone. He moved into lane two on Howell and didn't move over, coming within two feet of an Oak Creek Police squad car that was on a traffic stop on the 7100 block of S. Howell Ave.

According to police, Orosz admitted to being on the phone and not paying attention. He was cited for hit and run, inattentive driving and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle.
