Fire Causes $7,000 Damage To Water Treatment Plant: Report
A roofing company was working on the Oak Creek Water Utility building when an unexpected mishap resulted in a fire.

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek say they responded to the Oak Creek Treatment plant just after noon on May 23 on a report of a fire. According to police reports, the roof of the building was on fire. A second alarm was called in to request surrounding assistance.
According to police reports, a manager at the Water Treatment Plant said that on Friday, M.M. Schranz Roofing was there to do some roof work. At about 8:30 a.m. the plant turned on the standby engine, which provides power in case of an outage. the engine was turned on for about an hour as routine maintenance was done.
Oak Creek Fire Department officials said the fire caused between $5,000 to $7,000 in damage and was extinguished quickly.

According to reports, the exhaust vent from the engine heated up the fresh tar on the vent, which began smoldering. The Oak Creek Fire Department peeled away some of the roofing material to ensure that the fire was completely out.
