Fraudster Conned Oak Creek Resident, Saying He Was From Microsoft

Police say a telephone scammer conned an Oak Creek resident into buying $7,700 in gift cards by claiming to be from Microsoft.

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek say a telephone scammer may be making the rounds in Oak Creek following a report on July 23 in which a resident was defrauded out of $7,700.

According to Oak Creek police call logs, a resident on the 8400 block of Cortland Drive called police saying that a telephone scammer conned her into buying $7,700 in gift cards from someone claiming to be from Microsoft.

Police said the resident contacted her bank about freezing her accounts after telling police the scammer may have accessed her bank accounts.

Police told the resident to put a fraud alert on her credit bureau accounts, and to contact the IRS if she has concerns about her social security number being stolen.
