Helpful Oak Creek Neighbor Saves Dog's Life: Report

Police reported that the owner did not think the dog had been outside all that long.

OAK CREEK, WI -- Police say a concerned citizen likely saved the life of a dog, which was found laying in the street in freezing-cold weather.

According to Oak Creek police reports, an Oak Creek resident told police he was out in the area of the 8800 block of S. Pond View Drive. on the night of Jan. 27 when he spotted a lost black Yorkshire puppy who appeared to be injured and laying in the street.

According to reports, the man followed the dog as it walked back to its home down the block. The man told police that the dog returned to its owner's house, and that he rang the doorbell so that the dog could go back inside where it was warm.

Reports stated that the dog ran inside when the door was opened, but that they home's residents shut the door right after the dog went in.

Police reported that the owner did not think the dog had been outside all that long, and that the dog may have gotten out when a resident was carrying in groceries.

According to reports, the responding officer gave the resident a verbal warning for not having the dog on a leash, and informed the dog's owner that due to the extremely-cold temperatures outside that the dog would have likely frozen to death.
