Hit-And-Run Driver Responsible For Power Outage: Police

OAK CREEK, WI -- A hit-and-run driver is to blame for a power outage Sep. 14 in the S. Chicago Rd. area, Oak Creek police say.
Police in Oak Creek responded to the 8700 block of S. Chicago Rd. just before 10 p.m. on Sep. 14 on a report of a one-vehicle accident.
According to police reports, officers received two eyewitness reports, stating that the driver of a white pickup truck was driving on the shoulder of the road and into an oncoming traffic. An additional witness said he heard a loud boom and then saw that all the power went out in his area.

When police investigated, they learned that the driver was traveling north on S. Chicago Rd. when she lost control of her vehicle and entered oncoming traffic. To avoid a head-on collision, she reportedly drove off the road, only to drive through two front yards, grazing a large tree, striking a telephone pole and a ground wire before returning to traffic.
According to reports, the accident left the lights at E. Puetz Rd. and S. Chicago Rd. inoperable. We Energies arrived on-scene and said that a power transformer needed to be replaced as a result of the accident.
