They say when something is made out of love, you can tell. Butter, chocolate, caramel and pumpkin don't hurt, either.

OAK CREEK, WI — They say when something is made out of love, you can tell. Butter, chocolate, caramel and pumpkin don't hurt, either.
That's the story behind Hungry Monkey bakery, which is coming to Woodman's stores in Oak Creek and Waukesha on Sep. 16. And to drum-up deliciousness, baker-in-chief Cindy Kienzle is handing out free samples on the 16th.
Starting September 16, Hungry Monkey’s "crazy-good" sweets will be in Woodman’s in both the Waukesha and Oak Creek stores (with several other Woodman’s following in the coming weeks). Kienzle will also be on hand to sample all her treats in the Waukesha Woodman’s store on September 16 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and at their Oak Creek store from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

It took Hungry Monkey’s Cindy Kienzle, 30 years to start her baking company. Founded 7 years ago by Kienzle just across the border in Lake Forest, Illinois, Hungry Monkey specializes in small batch, old fashioned favorites with a twist. Her product line includes her signature and best-seller Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, Original Banana Bread, Carrot Cake with a Buttermilk Caramel Glaze, Pumpkin Bread, Lemon Cake with a Lemon Buttermilk Glaze, Triple Chocolate Brownies, Chocolate Chip Macaroons – and newest in her lineup, a Cinnamon Apple Streusel Cake.
The Hungry Monkey Baking Company started in 2010, almost by accident. Another local mom encouraged her to bake her banana bread for a charity event benefitting kids with special needs. Since her own daughter has some special needs, she immediately said "yes!" Her cakes sold out two days in a row and people didn’t stop calling to order.

Their sweets became an instant hit; a month later, ABC 7 Chicago’s "The Hungry Hound" featured Hungry Monkey in their weekly news segment. This, along with other local press, catapulted Hungry Monkey to the next level. A month later, The Hungry Monkey Baking Company was born at a local farmers market.
For the first two years Cindy would deliver to stores in her mom's mini-van, jockeying with the dairy and meat trucks, often with Lily, then 2, in tow. Hungry Monkey is now delivered by Norman Distribution to more than 25 stores in Illinois and Wisconsin.
