Update: IKEA 'A Done Deal' for Oak Creek, Announcement Thursday

It would be IKEA's first store in Wisconsin

OAK CREEK — In the not-too-distant future, you might not have to drive all the way to Schaumberg for that collapsible kitchen table. Or children's bunk beds. Or meatballs.

According to a Journal Sentinel report, the IKEA is "a done deal," and said the announcement is scheduled for Thursday.

The major announcement is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at City Hall, according to Gary Billington, a former Oak Creek Community Development Authority board member.

The announcement might be that the popular Swedish furniture and home decor store is considering opening their first Wisconsin store in Oak Creek.

The Biz Times is reporting that IKEA would anchor a large mixed-use development on land owned by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., on the northwest quadrant of West Drexel Avenue and I-94, according to sources.
