Local Runners Set Record at Lakefront Marathon

Local runners complete the 31st annual Lakefront Marathon Sunday - four set Guinness World Record.

According to Online Race Results, 16 runners hailing from Oak Creek completed Milwaukee's Lakefront Marathon Sunday. The Badgerland Striders-organized event - which is in its 31st year - reportedly drew over 3000 runners yesterday morning.

Of those 3000 runners, a select group of 62 motivated individuals participated as the "Jennipede", which connected the runners via a long rope, carabiners and race belts. The group - consisting of locals Ben Sharff, Geoff Landrum, Mike Steinke and Traci Neuman - set a Guinness World Record by completing the marathon in 6 hours and 20 minutes.

Apart from being a great athletic accomplishment, the "Jennipede" is so named because it raised over $100,000 for the rehabilitation of Jenny Crain, a world-class runner who was hit by a car while training for the 2008 Olympics.
