Man, 20, Tries Fleeing Police At 100 MPH Prior To Arrest: Report

Police say they arrested a 20-year-old man following a high-speed chase in which he fled at 100 mph, drove out-of-control and through yards.

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek say they arrested a 20-year-old driver after they say he drove 100 miles per hour on Howell Ave. before losing control of his vehicle.

According to Oak Creek police reports, a 20-year-old Oak Creek man was traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour on Howell Ave. just before 3 a.m. on April 28. Police stated that as soon as an officer approached the intersection of Howell Ave. and Ryan Rd., the officer saw the man's vehicle make a left turn on a red traffic signal at a high rate of speed.

Police say that officers began following the man's vehicle as he headed east, again reaching 100 miles per hour. Police say he slowed down as he attempted to turn right onto Nicholson Road, only to cross the northbound lanes, careen off the roadway and skid down a deep muddy ditch on the east side of the road.

According to reports, the man then made an abrupt right turn, missing several parked cars in a driveway on the 9700 block of Nicholson Road before getting stuck again in a ditch.

Reports stated he tried running from police, however officers caught up with him and arrested him after a short foot pursuit.

Police say the man faces the following charges: OWI - first offense, reckless driving and resisting an officer.
