Man Wanted To Die By Police Chase In Oak Creek: Report

Oak Creek police say they arrested a man who intended to die by crashing during a police chase. A short chase ensued before his safe arrest.

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek took a man into protective custody during the early morning hours of July 30 after a report that the man threatened self-harm and fled at a high rate of speed.

According to Oak Creek police reports, officers conducted a high-risk stop near the Oak Creek Speedway just before 3 a.m. on July 30 after a police chase of about 0.7 miles.

Reports stated that a woman called the police, and said that her son kissed her goodbye and left their home at a high rate of speed in his car. Officers tracked the man's location to the Speedway at Howell and Puetz. When police spoke with him, he told officers that he did not intend any self-harm.

According to police reports, the officer on-scene let the man go. A short time later, officers received a second call that the man reaffirmed his intention to conduct self-harm.

Reports indicated that officers found him traveling in his car a short distance away. He fled officers, however, decided to pull his car over at the last minute.

According to reports, this time, the man said that his intention was to get chased by police until he crashed with police and was killed and that he had been planning this tactic for about one week.
