Man On Xanax, Cocaine And Heroin Fired At Children In Car: Report

Officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun and found six shell casings in the parking lot in connection with the incident.

OAK CREEK, WI — A 19-year-old man who was arrested for firing several gunshots outside the Oak Creek Meijer Grocery store in December will serve 12 years in prison.

Alexzander Shlieve, of New Berlin, was charged in Dec. 2017 with three counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, firing a weapon into a vehicle, possessing a firearm, pointing a weapon and possession of cocaine.

During Schlieve's plea hearing, those charges were reduced to one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine. The other charges were dismissed, but read into the court's official record.

The Incident

Oak Creek police received an emergency call from a Meijer employee stating that there was a retail theft in progress.

When police arrived at the scene Monday at 171 W. Town Square Way, they saw a man run out of the store and flee officers on foot. Police began a foot pursuit and took him into custody.

According to reports, police officers heard a series of gunshots in the area of the parking lot. Officers reported seeing a man firing a handgun east toward Howell Ave. According to a Journal Sentinel report, police officers spoke with others on-scene and learned that Schlieve fired at a car containing four children and pointed his gun at a woman who was with her 9-year-old son. Officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun and found six shell casings in the parking lot. Reports indicated that police took two others into custody for questioning related to the incident.

Reports indicated that two of the suspects were transported to the hospital with apparent injuries. According to the Journal Sentinel report, Schlieve took Xanax, cocaine and heroin prior to the incident and later snuck cocaine into his cell at the Oak Creek Police Department.
