Mattress Firm Set to Open May 26

Work on converting an old Blockbuster into a Mattress Firm store is fairly far along and should be done in time to open on May 26, a company representative said today.

The newest of the mattress chain's many stores in the Milwaukee area  That location, at the busy corner of Howell and Puetz, provided an excellent opportunity for Mattress Firm to come into the Oak Creek area, Mattress Firm-Wisconsin owner Chuck Dawson said. 

"The real estate was too good to pass up," Dawson said. "We just feel like this is a convenient location for our customer base."

Mattress Firm has seen "explosive growth" in Wisconsin, Dawson said. When the Oak Creek store opens next week, it will become the 17th Mattress Firm to open in Wisconsin since February 2010. 

Dawson is a former executive with Sealy who has overseen the development of new stores in Wisconsin. He felt this market was previously underserved, filled with too many big-box furniture stores, and saw an opportunity for Mattress Firm to grow in this area.

Oak Creek shoppers not familiar with the store can expect competitive prices when they walk in the door, Dawson said.

"We try to offer all the major brands at the lowest prices," he said.

In fact, Mattress Firm offers a "lowest price or it's free" deal. Not a lot of people take the store up on that offer, but it helps customers' peace of mind when making a big-dollar purchase, Dawson said.

Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more, check out the company website.
